Beah SHIN
Born in 1983 in Seoul, Korea
Lives and works in Paris, France
Beah Shin creates imaginary natural scenes that blur the boundaries between the real and the unreal, exploring tensions between conflicting cultural and political ideologies. Growing up in Korea—a country divided by an impenetrable border—she examines how perception is shaped not only by time and space, but also by digital and virtual realms.
Her work draws from both historical painting and lesser-known subcultural visual sources, merging classical and contemporary aesthetics. While rooted in the traditions of Western and Korean landscape painting, she reinterprets these through the lens of Poongkyeong (풍경), a concept that reflects the universe’s vast, relational harmony beyond the gaze of a single observer.
