Beah SHIN
Born in Seoul, Korea
Lives and works in Paris, France
Where does an authentic gaze arise when vision itself is shaped by distance, displacement, and inherited histories ?
Born in Korea and based in France, Beah Shin approaches landscape not as a neutral view, but as a site where memory, ideology, and perception quietly intersect. Working from a position shaped by migration and cultural thresholds, she examines how what is seen is inseparable from what has been forgotten, mediated, or withheld.
Reinterpreting Jingyeong (眞景), the notion of the “true view,” and Poongkyeong (風景) as unstable and evolving processes rather than fixed representations, Shin considers landscape as something formed through bodily experience, temporal distance, and systems of visibility. Painting becomes a slow, reflective act that resists immediacy, unsettling images and questioning how perception is conditioned by historical, political, and technological frames.
