Beah SHIN

Born in Seoul, Korea
Lives and works in Paris, France

Beah Shin paints imaginary landscapes where the boundaries between the real, the imagined, and the virtual begin to dissolve.

Raised in Korea, a country shaped by a profound division, she reflects on how memory, time, and space influence the way we perceive the world. Trained in traditional painting and Korean aesthetics, she moved to France to revisit these legacies with fresh eyes. Her work draws from historical painting and the visual languages of overlooked subcultures, weaving together classical techniques with contemporary imagery.

Rooted in both Western and Korean landscape traditions, Shin approaches them through the ideas of Jingyeong (진경, “true view”) and Poongkyeong (풍경), concepts that suggest a relational harmony beyond any single viewpoint.

For her, the “true” is not a static image but a living process of perception, where memory, gaze, and space interact—turning each landscape into a place for reflection, discovery, and new perspectives.
